At last an end to the Folder V Subdomain argument.
Just a few years ago, Google used to treat a subdomain as a completely different site to the main domain. Then things got a little blurred. Some factors like trust could be inherited by the subdomain but some folk thought the folders had a slight edge.
Subdomain certainly had other advantages – you could have multiple listings for the same query and it was easier to point subdomains to different IPs and host on completely different platforms.
But today at the Las Vegas Pub Conference, Matt Cutts from Google announced their plans to treat all subdomains as folders. So, no more multiple listings for brands with multiple subdomains. Leaves a little more space for affiliates and one less option for reputation managers. Hosting sites like blogger and Wordpress will be unaffected.
