Latest on the October 2007 Google update

It’s been a couple of days since the reported PR drops for sites selling links, and judging by some of the reports, we haven’t seen any traffic drops for the sites that have dropped PageRank. As first suspected by many the toolbar PR drop hasn’t stopped those sites ranking – though these could still be early days. The network effect of stopping a large number of sites from passing on PR could take some time to propagate.

One thing I can confirm is that a lot of forum and blog sites have been prevented from passing on links. Many of these sites are very high profile and are not engaging in selling links or deliberate network spam. By their nature blogs form networks or communities around topics. So, if this is collateral damage, then there’s some serious fixing to be done.
