Google local filter fixed

Matt Cutts says Google has fixed the geo-targeting filter for non-US country specific Google queries.

For the last six months, Google has been dropping the home page of some locally hosted (non-US) .com domains, when the local sites only filter is selected. I.e. a .com domain hosted in the UK will have the home page missing in Google, when sites from the UK only are selected. The loss of the home page can mean a large drop in visibility as the home page usually has the greatest link equity and appears most frequently on Google. My stats shows up-to 30% of searches in the UK select pages from the UK only (This does depend on the type of query).

After much speculation across all the major forums, the Google glitch theory seem to be winning. I’m inclined to agree with Ammon Johns talking over at SEOMoz, that this is similar to the canonical issue Google has been grappling with for nearly a couple of years. Though the mechanics of how this can effect local filtered results is still unclear.
