Blogging for cash

Should bloggers accept cash for posting on other sites? Jeff Jarvis thinks so. His argument is pretty convincing - As ‘online’ journalist become increasingly independent, accepting money to cover topics for others is simply an extension of their job. As long as the journalistic credibility is maintained there shouldn’t be a problem. I tend to agree with him on the whole. Though, the reality leaves me feeling more cynical.

I’m aware of several of my peers who’ve been approached to write for blogs, simply to generate content and traffic thereby increasing ad revenue through Google adsence. These guys are paid by the number of words they write, not the amount of traffic generated.

I wouldn’t summarize what I’m saying that way. The post you link to talks about Business 2.0 magazine paying its own writers to blog on the basis of their traffic and I’m good with that. I’m also good with others who want to pay for blogging. I don’t want it to seem that I’m saying I’m ok with mercenary blogging — e.g., PayPerPost. Just to be clear. thanks.
